Luckily, you can easily reach the island by air or ferry. Various routes run from mainland Britain and Ireland, so you’ll have no issues getting here, especially if you’re travelling throughout the United Kingdom.

Travelling to the Isle of Man by air is the most popular option! You can take a direct flight from 10 different airports in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and you’ll land at Ronaldsway Airport (IOM).

Flights depart from various destinations on the mainland, including Edinburgh, Liverpool, Manchester, and London. You can also fly to the Isle of Man from Belfast (Northern Ireland) and Dublin (Republic of Ireland). Many of these routes operate year-round and flights are relatively frequent.

Four main airlines serve this island; Aer Lingus, British Airways, EasyJet and Loganair. We flew from Liverpool with EasyJet which only took around 20 minutes!

Direct routes run from:

2. By Ferry

If you have more time, you can always travel to the Isle of Man via ferry. These services run from Heysham, Liverpool, Belfast, and Dublin, and are operated by the Steam Packet Company.

Two main vessels service this route; Manxman and Manannan. The Manxman departs from Heysham and operates all-year-round services, while the Manannan runs from Liverpool between March and October. The latter also offers seasonal services from Dublin and Belfast.

During busy times, such as the TT, you’ll need to book the ferry in advance. It’s also important to remember that the ferry can take anywhere between 2 hrs 45 minutes and 4 hrs 45 minutes, depending on where you depart from!

Finally, you can visit the Isle of Man by taking a cruise. Cruise ships travel to the island every year, from all across the world. The ships moor in the capital of Douglas, either in the main harbour or Douglas Bay, depending on the size of the vessel.

The amount of time you’ll have on the island all depends on the cruise itinerary. However, you’ll likely have some great shore-based excursions to choose from. Not to mention, you’ll learn a lot about the local area this way.

However, in our opinion, taking a cruise isn’t the way to go. We’d recommend spending at least 4-5 days on the Isle of Man as there’s so much to see. If you head here on a cruise, you’ll definitely be short on time!
