The Best Budget Travel Accommodation In Vietnam
Last Updated: December 6 2020
Vietnam is a country we thoroughly enjoyed. It has so much to offer as a travel destination with there being so many amazing places to visit. We stayed in Vietnam for about a month, and the accommodation made our experience even better! The places we visited included Ho Chi Minh, Mui Ne, Hoi An, Da Nang, Hue, Ha Long bay and Hanoi. We believe that we picked the best accommodation in Vietnam possible for our budget, and would recommend anybody to stay there!
It can sometimes be quite a challenge finding the best place to stay that’s not only cheap and convenient, but also worthwhile in regards to how comfortable, clean and friendly it is. We decided to write a post about the places we stayed in Vietnam; making your planning a lot easier!
In our list we have only included the accommodation that we found good value for money and somewhere we would be more than happy to stay again. Only the places we feel others would enjoy are in this list. This is because we wouldn’t recommend anywhere, that we wouldn’t want to go back to. In no particular order, here is our list of the best accommodation in Vietnam for budget travellers.
1. Thuy Huong Homestay, Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City was the first place we stayed in Vietnam; so it was nice to stay in a homely place. Thuy Huong Homestay is up there with one of the best places we have stayed in Asia. It has just won an award on booking.com too. This homestay is run by a lovely Vietnamese lady who has a wonderful home in a small local street. It’s away from the hustle and bustle of the big city; and only 10-15 minutes away from some brilliant attractions such as the cafe apartments.
The best thing about staying here apart from it being affordable is how homely it feels. The room feels just like staying in your own bedroom; complete with a really comfy bed, fridge, desk and a TV with Fox Movies. In terms of cleanliness we had absolutely zero issue, the bathroom was clean and by the time we left Ho Chi Minh City we felt gutted to be leaving.
Price: A 3 night stay here worked out at just under £10 a night. It cost us £29 for what we found to be well worth the experience we had here. We would happily stay here again when visiting Ho Chi Minh City.
2. Flower Garden Homestay, Hoi An
Flower Garden Homestay is another great homestay in the charming town of Hoi An (also referred to as the Venice of Vietnam). The rooms are big, clean and feel like a steal at the price you pay. Flower Garden is close to the Old Quarter and the host is super friendly, helping to sort out future travels plans and activities to do.
With it being about a 15 minute walk from the centre of the old quarter, it is a brilliant place to stay away from the business. We had a double room with private bathroom and also a kettle, and TV with Fox Movies. Without a doubt we would stay here again! The room was spotless, cool, comfy and just what we wanted. The homestay also has a selection of activities for you to do. You can rent bicycles, join in some lantern making and also book tours or onward journeys. The host here is super approachable and will help you with anything you need.
Price: It cost us around £25 for 3 nights which was an absolute bargain for such a lovely room. We left here ensuring we had the contact details of the host so we can keep in touch and hopefully one day book our return to Hoi An.
For some reason our photos of this place got lost, so sorry about that!
3. Nice Hue Hotel, Hue
For us Nice Hue Hotel is a MUST if you are visiting Hue. The newly opened hotel is currently very cheap at less than £10 a night for a luxurious room that you would be happy to pay double for. The hotel is simply stunning, and in a great location. An added bonus is the super approachable owner who even took us to the train station for free at 4am so we didn’t have to pay for a taxi. He helped us with everything we needed, and was always there to give us advice.
We never expected to be staying in such an amazing place for so little whilst travelling. Our room was beautiful. It had two large beds, a lovely bathroom with a walk in shower and once again a TV with lots of channels including the English Football which was a bonus.
The main attractions in Hue were relatively close. The Imperial City is only a 20 minute walk away and thanks to the owner you can easily get to the abandoned water park which was incredibly fun. The fact the owner got up at 4am to take us to catch our train just summed up how much care and thought the owners have put into this hotel and how much customers matter to them.
Price: The total cost to stay here was £28 for 3 nights which was absolutely mind blowing for such an unbelievable stay.

4. The Confetti Hotel, Ha Long Bay
The Confetti Hotel in Ha Long Bay is definitely a great place to stay. It is the only place on this list that is considered slightly more expensive for a budget traveller; however it is always nice to treat yourself right? We couldn’t afford to stay on one of the cruises, so really wanted somewhere nice to stay in the town. The hotel is luxury, and we would definitely recommend you stay here when visiting Ha Long Bay.
We almost felt out of place in this stunning hotel; because we felt it should be way out of our price range. The rooms were incredible, and the staff super friendly. We spent £20 a night here to treat ourselves but after staying, it would have been fair to pay even more. There are also incredible views of Ha Long Bay, that can be seen from the balcony. We were also lucky to have our room upgraded for free!
The rooms themselves are awesome. It is very clean, comfortable and had a lovely bathroom with such a nice shower. We also had a balcony that overlooked the bay offering brilliant sunset views and short walks to the main town and sights.
Price: The price was £62 for 3 nights which is much more than we would normally spend. However for the area and considering we didn’t pay to stay on a boat, it was very reasonable and a fair price. The location is perfect especially if you plan on attempting to get to the viewpoint at Poem Mountain. The Mountain is just behind the hotel! However it is very difficult to get up there now, so be very careful!
5. Huha Home, Da Nang
Huha Home Da Nang is a very nice place to stay when visiting Da Nang. For a great price you get a lovely room and brilliant service. The room was decorated really nicely, the shared bathroom had a lovely shower, and the bed was really comfy. We really enjoyed our stay here and the hosts are very accommodating people who really make the effort to get to know you and also offer to take you out to the cinema in the evenings. This accommodation is only a short distance away from a brilliant shopping centre too. We would happily stay here again if in Da Nang.
Price: The price to stay here was great. It only cost us around £8 a night to stay here, which is awesome for the room you have.
6. Phuong Thao Homestay, Ninh Binh
This homestay was a little more out of the way but definitely worth it. It is away from the main town but in the prime location for Mua Caves (Only an 8 minute walk away). For everything else the taxi cost was only small. This homestay had a great free breakfast with lots of choice (we recommend the chocolate pancakes). Apart from the room being great and spacious with a good bed and private shower room, they also had two adorable little puppies so a win win all round. We would highly recommend staying here if you do want to see the Mua Caves. It was just so easy and in all honesty we weren’t to keen on the town itself anyway. We would definitely stay here again because of its location, great room and the free breakfast.
Price: Phuong Thao Homestay also costs around £8 a night which is again superb for what you get.
Our photos of this place also got lost, I swear my phone has a problem! so sorry about that!
